BEAST OF THE NORTHEAST SERIES

Beast of the Northeast!!!!

CTC’s LONG COURSE ENDURANCE SERIES!

Presented by Cleveland Triathlon Club

Ready for something different?  Up for a challenge?  Think you can tackle the Beast?????

WHAT IS THE BEAST?

The Beast of the Northeast is a new series intended to showcase a number of great endurance events around Northeast Ohio.  The Beast features a number of area venue "gems" including events in Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Lake Erie, Mentor Headlands, the Metroparks, the Towpath, National Park and more! With the number of talented single and multisport athletes, it is time to bring together the areas finest in this Beast of the Northeast Series!

The Beast of the Northeast is an annual points contest for all Cleveland Triathlon Club members. Participants receive points for selected races and for volunteering at club events during the year. The top participants in each category at the end of the year will be proclaimed the winners and will be eligible for awards at the series conclusion.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

Absolutely nothing!  Zilch.  Nada!

We do ask that you are a dues paying Cleveland Triathlon Club member for the 2009 year as the club will be responsible for coordination of the Series as well as arranging for awards.

WHAT ARE THE RACE CATEGORIES?

The race categories are simply Male and Female.  There are no categories for short people, spandex lovers, or those whose laundry room smells like a sewage facility.

WHAT DOES MY REGISTRATION PROVIDE ME WITH?

Everyone will have the opportunity to compete with the areas finest in this endurance series. At the conclusion of the series, an awards ceremony will be held at the Cleveland Triathlon Club’s winter banquet.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Cash, cars, and babes would be nice! If you are lucky, you will get a certificate, possibly with some witty message and a pat on the back!  We are still working on the awards so stay tuned!

HOW DOES THE BEAST WORK?

Don’t let the Beast scare you!  There are 21 events on the calendar to allow you to be flexible with what events you want to choose.  Only your top 8 races count toward your Beast Series Standings.

You will automatically receive points for every select Beast Series event you complete. Note the key word is complete!!! Points will be based on the following formula:

Points = (Difficulty Factor x Fastest Male or Female club member Time/Your Time).

The first place club member will earn 100 points, both male and female. If for some reason you do not finish in first place, your points are determined by your finishing time in proportion to the winner's time. For example, if you finished in 80 minutes and the winner completed the course in 60 minutes, you would earn 100 x 60/80 = 75 points. This number is then multiplied by the Difficulty Percentage which is based on 100% being approximately an Olympic Triathlon distance race.

NOTE:  You can register as late as you can still get in 8 races.  However, participation begins after you register. If you ran another race before registering, the points are NOT retroactive. This is not fair to participants who signed up before that race.

IF I AM SUCH A BEAST, THAT I WANT TO COMPETE IN MORE THAN 8 EVENTS, IS THERE ANYTHING IN IT FOR ME?

Complete over 8 events, you will receive 5 point bonus per race!

IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY I CAN STACK THE DECK?

Sure, this series director can be conned in lots of ways (beer, electronics, jewelry!).  For now though, the only way you can accumulate extra points is by volunteering at CTC or Beast Series events.  For each event you will receive 10 points.  Volunteer points will be capped at 50 points.

HOW IN THE WORLD WILL THIS SERIES BE MANAGED?

All series participants are required to send race and participation results to ctcbeast@yahoo.com.  Otherwise your results will not be included.  This will be done on the honor system, but don’t get cute as we may check!  These results will be compiled at least monthly and posted to the CTC website.  It is your responsibility to check the standings and let us know if you happen to notice an error in your results.  Final results will be tabulated and posted to the CTC site.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENT OF A TIE?

In case of a tie, the winner will be determined by a comparison of head-to-head race points. If the contestants are still tied then the older participant wins.

HOW DO I ENTER?
