WELCOME NEWBIES!

Newbie (nu-bee) n. A budding triathlete, someone who is about to embark on his or her first triathlon season.

If this term describes you, read on!

This sport, more than most, welcomes the new athlete. We've formed this group to help you learn about triathlon through training sessions with fellow novice and experienced athletes.

We'll have a variety of training sessions and get-togethers designed especially for newbies. We'll post upcoming Newbies training sessions and other events over in the "Upcoming Events" column. We also encourage you to get involved - and have fun - with the Cleveland Triathlon Club. Here's how:

  • Join the Cleveland Triathlon Club, if you haven't already. Group training sessions, picnics, parties and discounts at sponsors await you.
  • Feel free to come to one of the Club's regular training sessions. Know that all levels will be at these general group sessions and no one gets left behind. Experienced triathletes provide the best advice too!
  • If you have any questions about the Club, the Newbies group, or triathlon in general, e-mail Tim at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it We'll do our best to answer your question - or direct you to someone who can!

Transition Tips & Hints:

Transition. Definition: noun, “The act of passing from one state or place, to the next”

In the sport or Triathlon, regardless of the length of your race, you are going to experience two transition stages, as you move from swim to bike and then later in the race as you move from bike to run.

The object of this handout, is to provide you with information that will make your transitions as smooth and as effortless as possible, thereby, contributing to a greater OVERALL race experience.

The object of each transition is effectively, to enable the athlete to move from the previous leg, into the next leg. With experience, transitions become faster, smoother and more deliberate. While there is always an emphasis on fast transitions, it should be remembered that this short time between events – is important on several different levels – to ensure you are ready to commence the next leg properly.
