Off-Day ActivityWait! What? Day, well, I've heard of those.

Simple philosophy: If you choose to do something, do it well. I love to learn and really, really, enjoy living.

The family: I’m a dad with three great kids and a wife (“Saint Kathy”) of 49 years (yep, we married at 9), sons Chris and Dan and daughter Lindsey I’m also fortunate to have a circle of truly wonderful, lifelong friends.

The work: Most recently I'm a chemistry prof at Stark State College for the past 10 years. As one of my student told me, "Mr. Neag, coming to your class is like getting punched in the mouth". Before "retiring" to teach, I was in industry for exactly 31 years, starting as a polymer physicist (ca 30 publications...yeah, surprised myself...) and ending as a general manager for an R&D facility for my last couple of years. In between, I spent many years as a Technical Lab Manager in analytical sciences (think TV's "CSI" without beautiful women in stiletto heels and projects that take days rather than an hour). Finally, in a galaxy far, far away, I taught chemistry and environmental science and coached (Football & Baseball) at Buchtel High School in Akron...that would years ago.

Community: I serve as a mentor in the outstanding "iCare" program through Akron Public Schools– my most important contribution, I think. The motivation for me was simple: we are far too fortunate to keep our love and wonderful experiences to ourselves.
Beyond the social stuff, I’m also a competitive athlete for “Snakebite Racing” (a NE Ohio team of multi-sport athletes) running sprint triathlons, duathlons, 5Ks, and racing bikes...(“the fast old guy”). This year, I was invited to join TeamUSA as an age grouper (70-74 age group) and race in the World Championships in Europe (in Turgu Mures, Romania), I finished 4th in the Duathlon (sigh, 41s from Bronze). I also managed to win the Ohio state Cycling time trial championship (40k) and the SuperSprint Duathon at this years Tri CLE so there was that.

If I’m not racing, I often volunteer at local amateur events (bike tours/races, trail runs, triathlons) handling assignments that include everything from parking attendant to working the aid stations or acting as a road race course “marshal”. Bottom line, I want to remain relevant in society and find ways to contribute to “a better us” while at the same time staying really fit so can keep doing all the things I like.
