Mini Ragnar in Cleveland
The Sweet-n-Savory 60 is a 60 mile relay race that started at the Mastick Picnic area in Rocky River and finished at the Grove in Mayfield Village. It was organized by Great Lakes Racing and benifited the Greater Cleveland Foodbank.
There were 12 legs, varying in length from 3 to 8.8 miles. Some were flat, some hilly, so it was a fair course. There was a mix of road, trail and APT. Some of the later legs were on Chagrin River Rd from the Polo Grounds to Squires Castle. When the rain started it made the road running a little risky. We were required to wear high visability shirts (provided) which was good.
The post-race party at the Grove was good. There was no free food, but there were a half dozen food trucks, two beer sampling tents and music provided by Billy Morris. It was raining there too, but the tents were large and we were able to mingle with the other runners.
The race is self-supported (like Ragnar) so we carried our nutrition and hydration in the van. For a first time race, it was pretty well organized. Being local, my team was very familiar with the course and had no problems. I did hear at the post-race party that some of the course markings weren't the best. One team took a wrong turn after leaving the exchange at Old Oak and ran an extra 5 miles (it was an ultra team and they didn't mind the miles).
Overall, my team enjoyed the race and would do it again.
